
Biography
Emily Poe Stumler believes in the power of compassionate prosecution. As a prosecutor, you can never stop believing in the power of second chances for those who deserve the opportunity. However, those opportunities do not come without holding individuals accountable. A thirteen-year veteran prosecutor, she has represented the citizens of Harrison County, Indiana, in cases ranging from traffic tickets to murder.
When she began her career as a prosecutor, she focused on juvenile prosecution and has continued to make that a guiding part of her mission during her tenure in the Harrison County Prosecutor’s office. Reducing recidivism in the criminal justice pathway begins with juvenile intervention. Taking a special interest in sexual assault and child-centered victim cases has been an overarching passion in her work as a prosecutor.
As your elected prosecutor, Stumler plans to continue the long-standing tradition of the Harrison County Prosecutor’s office while also developing new initiatives for juveniles and adult offenders. Believing in the importance of education and finding a meaningful way to contribute to society, Stumler plans to make a concerted effort to help assist individuals with this pathway.
Stumler is a Southern Indiana native who graduated from Belmont University magna cum laude in Nashville, Tennessee, with a degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Music. A former professional fiddle player and background vocalist, Emily accompanied Taylor Swift as a member of her band on the Grand Ole Opry, Jay Leno, Live with Regis and Kelly, the CMA Awards, and tours with musicians George Strait, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill, Brad Paisley, and Kenny Chesney. Stumler graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2011 and is licensed to practice law in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana.
Emily is currently the President of the Rotary Club of Corydon, a board member with Southern Indiana Arts Alliance, Vice-President of the Harrison County Hammerheads Swimming Association, a graduate of Leadership Southern Indiana, a board member of Harrison County Lifelong Learning, and a six-year veteran board member of LifeSpring Southern Indiana. Emily Poe Stumler resides with her husband, Eli, a Naval Reserve Seabee Officer and a former Army Veteran in Lanesville, Indiana, with the couple’s three children.
